Amethyst
Amethyst (1998) for 'Cello, live electronics and fixed medium was composed for my final year undergraduate composition portfolio at Middlesex University. It is inspired by the shape and colour of Amethyst crystals, and was the first piece I wrote for instrument and live electronics. The piece also has a "tape" part, which was synthesised using Csound. The synthesis took a long time (I think it was several hours).
The live electronics consists of a stereo digital delay with a delay time and level control, and reverberation. This was achieved using a BOSS GX700 Guitar effects processor.
